Chocolate Eggette with Ice Cream from Hong Kong Day Desserts, CHINATOWN SYDNEY

If you’ve never tried an eggette before, then you’re in for a delicious treat. It can often be overlooked by Belgian waffles or churros from your more well-known franchises across Australia.

But let me tell you, an eggette offers just the same amount of satisfaction and if not, making you feel ‘lighter’. It’s essentially egg-based waffle and hugely popular as a street snack in Hong Kong and Macau.

So how does Hong Kong Day Desserts compare?

If you’ve tried an eggette or even been lucky enough to try it from Hong Kong and Macau then you’ll find that the waffles at Hong Kong Day Desserts do not disappoint.

The eggette comes in different flavours, with your classic ‘egg taste’, but also chocolate, macha, and cheese (bold). Regardless, you can’t go wrong with any of those flavours.

The waffle is crispy and golden on the outside, while fluffy and airy on the inside, because of this it’s not a particularly heavy dessert compared to the western/European style.

You can either have your eggette on it’s own as a snack or choose a dressier version with ice cream, fruits and sauce. Again, you won’t find this particularly heavy (though it may seem like it), after all, this is a street snack so it’s meant to be easy to eat while on the go. This is also the reason for the minimal seating area at Hong Kong Day Desserts.

Now, the price?

If you have the plain eggette which is $6.90, then we’d consider that decently cheap as the portion size is generous, and you’ll be eating this hot, fresh off the griddle! This is especially the case if you’re sharing it with someone else. Hint: This is a great cinema snack if you sneak it in 😉 (not that we’ve ever done that).

If you go for fancier versions of the eggette (ice cream and handroll), then it’s an average of $13 which is a bit more of a premium pricing, after all, it is a fancier version. We’d definitely recommend sharing this with someone to split the cost and be able to take down that bad boy.

WOULD I COME BACK?

Yes! There aren’t many places across Australia that have Hong Kong Style eggettes. If you’re feeling peckish while shopping or even on a date or out with friends, this is just the type of snack that will be perfect – it’s grab and go, and doesn’t cost an arm or leg.

The handroll eggette is also a cute dessert that you can grab and then take a nice stroll around Chinatown and darling harbour.

There are also other desserts at Hong Kong Day Desserts like their crepe cakes, snow ice desserts, and sesame sweet soups. Have you tried them? Let us know!
