The Korean grocer has a range of appealing grab and go meals throughout the store, particularly at located at the front, ranging from desserts, hot pots, meats, sushi, and more. We decided to try its salmon and katsu chicken sushi box, and then finish off the meal with a large burnt basque cheesecake.

The chicken katsu sushi had 5 pieces and at $6 ($1.20 a piece) – still pricey for my wallet.

This is probably one i wouldn’t recommend as the chicken katsu was of course soggy and no longer as delicious, so i wouldn’t recommend paying $6 for 5 soggy pieces. Again, i do appreciate the abundance of the filling. I do have to say that the sushi rice for more the salmon box and the chicken katsu was definitely not authentic.

As shown in our pics, the salmon sushi box did look very appealing, although with only 4 pieces of sushi rolls and 3 nigiris for $12 is a bit steep for my liking.

Although it only had a few pieces in the salmon box, they were large pieces. They were also generous with the sashimi size as well, and didn’t overload it with too much rice which is a tick in my checklist. The salmon was the fresh but i wouldn’t expect Sydney Fish Market quality. I’d say it’s more like Sushi Hub quality.

Now, let’s talk the dessert section.

If you walk through the home and living section, you’ll find that at the far left, there is a whole section just for desserts, and boy do they look absolutely delicious! At first glance, prices are higher than your average $6.50 a slice, so are they worth it?

We tried the burnt basque cheesecake which was priced at $9! Because of it’s price, we expected good things from it, and it didn’t disappoint.

The cheesecake was creamy but not overpowered by the cream cheese, and it was not overly sweet either (which in Asian feedback means it’s awesome). It is a very light cheesecake and you definitely won’t feel sickly after eating this.

The burnt bits of cheesecake was also executed perfectly. You can see in the photo that the depth/thickness of the burnt bits are consistent throughout the cake as well.

It was worth the $9, but i’d have this as a treat-yo-self sort of dessert as having it too often might just break my bank (also value wise, you’d probably look at buying a whole cake at this point).

I’d definitely recommend looking at the KMALL09 Eastwood’s dessert section as there was a few selection of different types of desserts and i’ll be back to trial some of their other ones as they all looked very appealing! KMALL09 mainly source their desserts from Suite Dessert, and judging by their Instagram, i look forward to trying more of it!

WOULD I COME BACK?

I think i’ve made it quite obvious i’d be back for their desserts (despite being on the pricier end). Their sushi is more of a quick grab and go if i need something for lunch. I’d definitely recommend going to the grocer and browsing their other items cause they are just as great. I’ve tried their bakery section and their coffee cakes were delicious!

Side note: If you are new to Eastwood or KMALL09 Eastwood, it can be quite daunting to find parking given that it’s normally busy, but KMALL09 Eastwood actually has an underground carpark dedicated for their customers. You’ll be able to find it by going down Rowe Lane.
