The beauty of yum cha, is that you get to try an array of dishes. But deep down, we all know that there is a particular favourite that we would have liked to place two orders instead of one. You restrain yourself because you need to be considerate those who are there with you.

The best option? AND the cheapest? Buy the ingredients and make your own! Although, this might not be the most time savvy option. Our alternative? Buy frozen dumplings.

For most people, the obvious choice to get these frozen dumplings is from your local grocer i.e. Coles and Woolworths. But let’s be real here, those dumplings are never as good and as affordable (until they’re on sale).

*ENTER* Sydney Best Dim Sim.

You can get locally made and high quality dumplings if you know where to look. We tried Sydney Best Dim Sim’s prawn hargow 50 pieces pack at the cost of $39.

Is 50 pieces too much? No, not if you’re keeping it frozen and cooking this in batches or having dumplings parties.

Sydney Best Dim Sim has three branches in Sydney – Cabramatta, Eastwood, and Campsie.

The dumplings are all made locally, and sometimes you’ll be able to see them hand-make the dumplings at the back of the store.

We visited the Sydney Best Dim Sim’s Cabramatta branch, and this place does not have seating. It is a dim sim takeaway place. You can either buy cooked dim sims and eat them while on the go, or you can buy frozen dumplings and take them home to make. We chose the latter.

If you think it’s a hassle to cook your own batch at home, it really isn’t. Boil water, and get it on the stove, and steam the dumplings for 15-20 minutes. Easy.

One of the best part of these dumplings from Sydney Best Dim Sim, is that they actually have good filling to wrapper ratio. You can almost immediately tell whether a dumpling eatery cares about their customers based on this ratio. If the wrapper has a higher ratio than the filling, then they’re making a run with your money.

Sydney Best Dim Sim PACKS the dumplings with delicious filling. Each dumpling gets a whole prawn inside. It’s your authentic cantonese style prawn hargow, with some bamboo shoots and delicious filling mixture.

Of course, do not expect restaurant-quality dim sim like your Vinh Phat (at Cabramatta), but this is definitely close especially for something you can cook at home yourself without the high price tag.

WOULD I COME BACK?

Absolutely. We only tried the prawn hargows, but we are keen to go back and try their other products. These frozen dumplings are cheap for highly authentic and gourmet dumplings.

Cook them at the comfort of our own home without the high markup prices that retail stores. Sydney Best Dim Sim is the manufacturer so there are no high markups in their products.

If you could save yourself from going to yum cha and paying for array of dishes you don’t want, , you’re winning here.

Disclaimer: While doing our research on other’s feedback of Sydney Best Dim Sim, a number of people have commented about the rude service or lack of. We didn’t experience any rudeness from the staff, and in fact, they were very helpful (granted one of the ladies with us knew the staff). At the end of the day, if the staff ain’t rude at a Chinese restaurant/takeaway, is it even legit?
